Song #80
Kenny Chesney
|
US Billboard Hot 100, making him one of the most successful crossover country artists. He has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
Chesney has received six Academy of Country Music awards as well as nine awards from the Country Music Association. He is one of the most popular touring acts in country music, regularly selling out the venues in which he performs. His 2007 Flip-Flop Summer Tour was the highest-grossing country road trip of the year.
"Lindy" is a song that Chesney wrote in 2006 about a homeless man who wandered, "around and around and around and around." that he met while at his home on the US Virgin Island of St. John. "Everybody knew Lindy," said Chesney. "You'd just see him, walking along, talking to himself... Never quite sure what or whether he knew what was going on, and yet, he always had a smile on his face, and sometimes you really would see him playing piano in the little church when nobody was watching. I don't know why that one day I went home, and went, 'Well, this is one of those moments and one of those people you don't want to lose...' So I started writing, and the song poured out."

"Lindy"
Lyrics
Lindy strolls around
Down main streets
Down side streets
Makin' his way through town he picks up pennies
Saves 'em for a rainy day
With callous feet he makes his way to see the sun sink in the bay
Lindy strolls around and around and around
Around and around and around
He plays piano at the church when nobody's watchin'
Takes cigarettes from strangers and sometimes you see Him talkin'
To himself, laughin' to himself
Lindy strolls around and around and around
Lindy's seen it all
Storms and hurricanes
Some say he's insane
No one knows his last name
But I believe
He's the salt of the Earth
Just look past his dirty shirt and you will see just what he's worth
Lindy strolls around and around and around
Around and around and around
He plays piano at the church when nobody's watchin'
Takes cigarettes from strangers and sometimes you see
Him talkin' to himself, laughin' to himself
Lindy strolls around and around and around
Around and around and around
Ooh
He plays piano at the church when nobody's watchin'
Takes cigarettes from strangers and sometimes you see
Him talkin' to himself, laughin' to himself
Lindy strolls around and around and around
Around and around and around
Lindy strolls around and around and around
Ooh
