Hope 4 Restoration places a high value on the lives of persons' experiencing homelessness. Whereas, we advocate and provide services that promote the well-being of the homeless populations that we serve, unfortunately there are many who do not survive the condition of being homeless.
It is our experience that deaths of homeless persons' are largely under-reported by local authorities and news media sources. Furthermore, restrictions regarding privacy often frustrate access to information from public and private agencies that respond to reported deaths. This vacuum of information sometimes leads to the conjecture of misleading reports that create hysteria across segments of the homeless community.
Hope 4 Restoration understands that solutions for ending homelessness are largely evidence-based and data-driven. The information regarding homeless deaths is critical to the overall analyses and tantamount to promoting effective policies that would end homelessness. We believe that a more accurate and detailed record of homeless deaths could also provide greater closure for the friends and loved-ones of the deceased and promote a more dignified response from the community-at-large.
Hope 4 Restoration sponsors annual events in recognition of National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day each year on December 21st where we honor the lives of those unfortunate souls that passed away without permanent healthy, safe and secure places to call home. Later this year, we will announce plans for a future permanent site for a Homeless Memorial monument here in Orange County and an internet Homeless Memorial website that will be dedicated to those that lost their struggle with homelessness. A page will be dedicated for each person where friends and loved-ones can visit and share uploads/downloads of photo and video content and leave comments in memory of those who died.
Please help us to continue serving our homeless communities with compassionate respect by reporting deaths of homeless persons'.
Respectfully,
